Our 5 best tips for a detox cleanse
Still recovering after a furious eating frenzy at Christmas? There are so many ways to cleanse your body and keep yourself in tip-top health. A good detox will kick-start your metabolism and get you one step closer to your body goals. To help you get started, we’ve rounded up a few of our best ideas…
Naughty, but nice…
Keeping a food diary is a great way to manage your eating habits. Do you know what you are eating each day? Circle any naughty food items, snacks and drinks, e.g. those packed full of refined sugars, and then remove these from your daily diet. Sugar is not your friend! Instead, swap with some fresh fruit or a handful of nuts. For a good detox, we recommend cutting out all refined sugar, avoiding processed and starchy foods like bread, pasta and potatoes, and upping your intake of fresh leafy vegetables, beans and pulses. Always read the labels on food and drink products, especially ‘diet’ foods.
Plan, plan, plan
Plan your meals in advance – this will make a big difference to your eating habits and it will save you money too! By researching healthy recipes and planning your daily meals in advance, mealtimes will become easier and more exciting. Cooking healthy meals doesn’t have to be time-consuming. Why not do a big ‘cook-off’? A freezer full of home-cooked meals means you can just reheat your dish of choice whenever you like, rather than cooking it from scratch every time.
Shaken, not stirred…
Having a ‘dry January’? Cutting down on the caffeine? If you’ve overindulged on the eggnog over Christmas, how about giving your poor liver a rest? Try a delicious Mocktail instead. All the fun without the hangover! Most bars offer Mocktails these days, so you don’t have to stay in to enjoy an alcohol-free drink. If you want to make one for yourself, here’s one of our all-time favourites - Green Iced Tea. Make a jug, decorate with various bits of fruit, berries or mint, and impress your friends. Full of zest and sunshine flavours, you’ll feel as if summer is just around the corner - enjoy.
Pep up your water
We all know the importance of staying hydrated, but you don’t necessarily need to drink 2 litres of plain water every day! Why not add a dash of lemon to hot water for a simple, clean, wake-me-up call? Brighten up those long afternoons with a peppermint tea, or add a few sprigs of fresh mint to hot or cold water.
Join the juicer revolution
Get creative. Combine vegetables and fruit together in a blender, add a splash of lime juice or a slice of ginger to create a healthy smoothie. Treat your taste buds by bringing together a variety of different flavours. Check out our yummy superfoods smoothie - it’ll give you a natural kick to set you up for the entire day.
Being healthy can be both fun and inspiring – there really are no limits to the ingredients you could add. And, if you’re struggling to avoid that choccy, try a sweet infusion tea to satisfy those cravings. With so many choices and combos out there, you certainly won’t get bored!
